    A mere coupling of MRP systems with shop floor control or MDA systems cannot grant a satisfactory order control close to the manufacturing process. This can only be brought about by the combination of MRP systems with a high-performance production control system. This approach makes use of the advantages of the MRP system in the management of the customer order network and assigns the detailed planning of individual orders to the production control system more suited to this task. This article describes the concept, the development, the functions, and the industrial application of an integrated production control system, which has been in industrial use for a year now.

    Eine Konzentration der Unternehmensführung auf kurzfristige, finanzbezogene Erfolgsfaktoren in Verbindung mit einem Verzicht auf Pflege und Effizienzsteigerung der industriellen Gütererstellung hat zum Niedergang weiter Industriebereiche geführt. Das Schlagwort "Lean Production" wird daher z. Zt. vom Management dankbar aufgenommen, wenn auch viele der Konzepte, die dahinterstehen (z. B. aufgabenangereicherte Fertigungsinseln oder dezentrale, kompetenzorientierte Fertigungssteuerung) schon seit Anfang und Mitte der 80er Jahre empfohlen werden (1, 2). Glaubt man der einschlägigen Presse (3, 4), so besteht heute die Gefahr eines unreflektierten Kopierens japanischer Modelle, für die häufig die Voraussetzungen fehlen. Gemeinsames Merkmal der vorgestellten Ansätze sind die Einsicht in die Notwendigkeit einer ganzheitlichen Planung und die Akzeptanz der damit verbundenen Komplexität. Vernetztes Denken, Modularisierung und Staffelung von Entscheidungsketten sind das grundlegende Rüstzeug für das planerische Vorgehen in diesem Umfeld. Ziel muss es sein, kostengünstig, schnell, flexibel und mit der erforderlichen Qualität zu produzieren.

    Knowledge-based shop floor control. In today's flexible manufacturing, order planning and control decisions have to be revised more often than in the past. MRP II systems cannot follow the big number of shop floor events. The numerous mutual dependencies cannot be assessed even by experienced supervisors. Therefore an advanced shop floor control system was developed that supports supervisors in making short term production decisions using company wide and individual information and rules.
