A mere coupling of MRP systems with shop floor control or MDA systems cannot grant a satisfactory order control close to the manufacturing process. This can only be brought about by the combination of MRP systems with a high-performance production control system. This approach makes use of the advantages of the MRP system in the management of the customer order network and assigns the detailed planning of individual orders to the production control system more suited to this task. This article describes the concept, the development, the functions, and the industrial application of an integrated production control system, which has been in industrial use for a year now.
