Using the new technology of service robots can offer a lot of opportunities and market chances in the future. Even for experts it is difficult today to estimate the whole variety of applications and new service ideas which will be offered in the future. But one important aspect of service robots is clear to everybody who is concerned with the development of such systems: service systems must be safe systems. Hence the idea is to show the importance of safety methods, standards and technologies for the new field of service robotics. Main intention is to influence the basic areas of development, design, production and operation of service robots to develop a new model for the appropriate safety level definition of service equipment. It is a big challenge for every manufacturer of service systems to find the right balance between functional, legal and economic aspects of safety. Therefore, it is helpful to illuminate various aspects of safety technology and to define the direction for fur ther investigations.
