PublicationWar in Ukraine: Implications for the European and German strategies for importing hydrogen and synthesis products. Position paper(Fraunhofer ISI, 2022-03)
;Fragoso García, Joshua ;Löschel, Andreas ;Biesewig, Lars ;Thiel, Zarah ;Voglstätter, Christopher ;Nunez, Almudena ;Quitzow, Rainer ;Kunze, Robert ;Stamm, Andreas ;Strohmaier, RitaLorych, LudgerRussia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has led many to question the formerly held certainty that close trade relations result in a stable energy supply. Hydrogen, which is expected to play an important role in the future, is particularly affected by this. Against this background, among other things, this position paper addresses new approaches to assessing partner countries for hydrogen imports, the development of import costs, and the potential for hydrogen production in the EU. The paper also addresses the future economic development of Ukraine through the production and transportation of hydrogen. -
Impulspapier(Fraunhofer ISI, 2022)
PublicationPrices and costs of EU energy. Final report(Ecofys, 2016)
;Grave, Katharina ;Boeve, Sil ;Friedrichsen, Nele ;Eckartz, Katharina ;Bons, MarianIn the period between 2008 and 2015, retail prices for electricity and gas have generally increased, with the exception of gas in industry which shows a slight decrease in the statistics. Higher energy costs and prices have been cited as a factor in decreasing competitiveness of industry in many EU Member States. This report looks at the drivers for developments in energy costs and how these affect households and the European industry. An econometric analysis disaggregates the main drivers in retail costs for electricity and natural gas. Policies determining the increasing number of taxes and levies are analysed one by one on the national level. The impact of prices on industrial competitiveness is analysed for 15 energy intensive sectors, and five energy intensive products. The effects differ strongly by sector and by country. The analysis of energy expenditures in households is split by income levels. In every European Member State, the main impact of increasing retail prices is on households with low income. -

PublicationRE-shaping: Shaping an effective and efficient European renewable energy market. D23 final report(European Commission, 2012)
;Steinhilber, Simone ;Resch, Gustav ;Panzer, Christian ;Ortner, Andre ;Busch, Sebastian ;Rathmann, Max ;Klessmann, Corinna ;Nabe, Christian ;Lovinfosse, Isabelle de ;Neuhoff, Karsten ;Boyd, Rodney ;Junginger, Martin ;Hoefnagels, Ricet. al.The core objective of the RE-Shaping project is to assist Member State governments in preparing for the implementation of Directive 2009/28/EC and to guide a European policy for RES in the mid to long term. The past and present success of policies for renewable energies will be evaluated and recommendations derived to improve future RES support schemes. The core content of this collaborative research activity comprises: Developing a comprehensive policy background for RES support instruments. Providing the European Commission and Member States with scientifically based and statistically robust indicators to measure the success of currently implemented RES policies. Proposing innovative financing schemes for lower costs and better capital availability in RES financing. Initiation of national policy processes which attempt to stimulate debate and offer key stakeholders a meeting place to set and implement RES targets, as well as options to improve the national policies fostering RES market penetration. Assessing options to coordinate or even gradually harmonise national RES policy approaches. -
