Today, companies can incorporate knowledge from outside partners much easier than ever before to reduce the risk involved with new product development. Models of various kinds of cooperation exist, which show specific advantages for certain situations. Important factors for cooperation success are the definition of the goals, the partner's properties as well as the form of cooperation. The tool presented in this paper allows an easy identification of the right kind pf partner for a given problem and helps in setting up the collaboration more easily. It can be applied by managers of industrial companies regardless of size or industry. The tool is derived from a set of case studies and information about various kinds of research - industry - projects and helps to achieve more successful partnerships. It consists of a four stage process supported by four decision matrixes. The tool described in this paper will be useful for practitioners in setting up new co-operations and gives academia a framework for the cooperation initiation phases.

A multifunction locking pin is fabricated from a semi-flexible or elastic material. The locking pin is also designed to function as a seal. The pin section serves especially to temporarily close up a threaded recess such as a drill hole. The deformable plastics pin effects a seal against the thread in the drill hole as the pin is screwed into the hole. USE - Multifunction blocking pin for use especially to temporarily close up and protect holes otherwise exposed to galvanic process. ADVANTAGE - Single-use pin is automatically inserted and provides low-cost system for protecting especially threaded components.

In this and a following article it is explained, how companies could be able to use essential and important internal and external potentials for innovative developments for their purposes. Patents, either owned by the company or other parties, involve one of these enormous potentials, which, however, will only be consequently and successfully exploited if the right strategies are applied. This article explains details of these strategies in respect to patents and will demonstrate how they work.

A new method applies a sheet (1) to a surface (13), e.g. the painted surface of a car. The sheet is supplied from a roll (2), from which it is pulled off. It is laid on to the surface, being cut out before, during or after placing, such that the edge of the surface slightly projects beyond the edge of the cut sheet. The residue (11) is taken away, before, during or after placing, in an automatic process. Also claimed is the corresponding equipment, to carry out the proposed procedure. USE - Used to apply a sheet to a surface, especially a painted vehicular surface, for protection, replacing earlier methods of e.g. wax protection. ADVANTAGE - This process may be fully automated and the protected surface is formed easily and at small cost, and subsequently there is no difficulty in handling since there are no projecting sheet edges to cause problems. Applied to bonnet, boot and doors, all these can be opened afterwards without hindrance, allowing checking, and if necessary, rectification . The sheet is applied in such a manner that the paintwork, which may yet require full hardening, is not marked or damaged.
