    Visuelle Datenbankprogrammierung mittels Schemanavigation
    ( 1993)
    Gernert, R.
The aim of the research project is the support of the interaction with large, complex databases. The interaction process can be optimized by the supply of relevant information by the user interface. The paper characterizes the difficulties of relational query languages. The concept of navigating interaction is presented which consists of the visualization of the database schema as in information network and the generation of SQL-statements composing relations, attributes and other parameters during the navigation through the network. The objectoriented implementation of the prototype is described and results of its evaluation are published.

The development of the turning machine is characterized by an increasing degree of automation, capacity and flexibility. This is particularly true for the turning machines which have become self-sufficient turning centres with driven tools, the possibility of using multiple cutting dunctions, higher speed frequencies and tool and workpiece changing systems. Ergonomic and easy to operate control systems are just as important as systems for simulation and optimization of the munufacturing processes prior to real machining. The state of the art which has been achieved in this field meanwhile is documented by the VDI-Z-data base of turning machines comprising data of over 500 CNC turning machines. Evaluations of this data base - some examples given in this paper show some of the possibilities - can lead to valuable results both for munfacturers and users.

The integrated computer aided planning system is developed for assembly systems with special reference to automated material handling. Based on the specification of planning tasks, assembly functions and equipment, modules for assembly sequence planning, layout design and system behaviour simulation have been realized. The open architecture is characterized by an infrastructure of data base and network, integrating instruments as CAD and expert systems for consistent information processing. The paper describes system development and application in industrial assembly.
