The growing use of computers in the design area has lead to changed requirements to design methodology. The reasons for this can be seen in the relations between computer and design methodology. On the other hand universally valid methodics are limited in their practical use for computer applications. This paper describes the necessity of a new product-oriented design methodology for computer-aided product gestaltung.

Impact of geometric modelling for computer integrated manufacturing
    ( 1990)

Computer integrated manufacturing requires new software structures to enable free interaction between computer aided design, planning, production and quality control. The challenge of information technology in the factory has led to a new view on productgestaltung. Especially the new possibilities of geometric modelling and their applications which make use of features, product models and knowledge-based modules enable the merging of design and manufacturing.
