The design of processes for lean product development

1993 , Krause, F.-L. , Schlingheider, J.

Today's product development processes have a number of deficits. These can be seen in many interfaces as a result of involving both too many people and too many computer aided tools. The structure of the development process is mostly based on activities and functional aspects, less on the product structure, which leads to many hierarchical planes. This fact requires much organizational effort for the administration of a high number of relations between subprocesses. These relations involve various types of information like drawings, calculation results, decisions, changes, responsibilities and so forth.

Design methodology in knowledge-based design systems

1990 , Lehmann, C.M. , Schlingheider, J. , Krause, F.-L.

Knowledge-based systems, reinforced through research and development, are penetrating industrial areas of application. Meanwhile they have successfully proven their practical applicability for certain fields of operation. To enlarge the computer support in the design area, it is necessary to develop a CAD methodology, which makes the work with CAD systems more effective. Computer supported knowledge processing opens a new class of solutions for design which did not seem to be achievable with the conventional systems available up to now.

Entwickeln und Konstruieren mit wissensbasierten Softwarewerkzeugen - ein Überblick

1991 , Schlingheider, J. , Krause, F.-L.

Knowledge based systems offer an enlargement of the potentials of use of software for design and planning in the view of growing complexity of the products. In this paper an overview over the fields of application of knowledge based systems for development and design was given. Procedures were shown, which could be supported by knowledge based techniques. At the end industrial applications and research activities were classified.

Changes of design methodology in the view of computer-aided product gestaltung

1991 , Lehmann, C.M. , Schlingheider, J. , Krause, F.-L.

The growing use of computers in the design area has lead to changed requirements to design methodology. The reasons for this can be seen in the relations between computer and design methodology. On the other hand universally valid methodics are limited in their practical use for computer applications. This paper describes the necessity of a new product-oriented design methodology for computer-aided product gestaltung.
