Modern computerised numerical control systems provide a lot of functions to the user. During configuration and operation of the CNC a couple of difficulties have to be solved. The user expects to be supported efficiently by the machine producer. A fast and simple contact between user and producer has to be installed in the kind of a CNC integrated remote service system. As the operator has an increasing responsibility for the machine, there is a further need for process supervision and diagnosis of the electromechanical components. The overall target is to achieve a high degree of availability of the machine. The paper describes a unique system for an CNC integrated remote diagnosis and supervision, process supervision for milling and model based diagnosis for feed drives, which was implemented into a new open CNC generation.

At the IPK-Berlin a proceed for the diagnosis of machine axes was developed, which can detect and monitor the state of an axis without the use of sensors. A minimal expense of hardware guarantees particular efficiancy for operator support during setting up the machine and service. This subscription will monitor the potentials of a sensorless state supervision for machines by application of "intelligent" identification and classification methods. As these methods can easily be adapted to different electromechanical components, the system could attract a wide circle of industrial users.
