    Methods used so far an automatic registration of large-sized technical documents are based on the binarization of pixel data by means of a fixed or dynamic scanning threshold. However, the quality of the results obtained thereby depends to a considerable degree on the quality of the scanning patterns. Much better results can be obtained by means of processing the grey scale values even with a relatively slight resolution.
