The rise of digitalization provides an opportunity to establish a foundation for facilitation, collection and processing of sustainability data, which in turn enable carbon accounting along the value chain of battery manufacturing systems. We present a conceptual framework for enabling data-based Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for battery cells or even battery packs based on ISO 20140. The framework aims at automated tracking energy consumption directly from the shop floor and the associated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the LCA by employing standardized process models fueled by a data warehouse and simulation. This builds the foundation for enabling production system and production strategy benchmarks and analysis and could also enable the vision for a Life Cycle Energy Label for battery cells and vehicles.enManaging Environmental Sustainability of Battery Cell Manufacturing Linesbook article
