Besides emissions from the use-phase, additional impacts come from aircraft manufacturing, the end-of-life and recycling. The complexity of aircraft systems and the lack of public data have prevented analysis of aggregated contributions of the value chain to key environmental problems, although this analysis could provide valuable insights helping to reduce environmental impacts. Fraunhofer has developed a more complete assessment method to quantify the environmental footprint of industrial areas, such as the aeronautics manufacturing sector.
