Innovations and technologies compete for resources in an environment characterized by economic scarcity. Ultimately, the technology most suited to the times and the regional condition triumphs. The article focuses the (present) innovative structures in industry in a selected region of Germany (i. e., the federal state of Baden-Württemberg) and provides new scientometric data on the (present) contribution of public institutions to technological development in the region under scrutiny.
