Special Issue Featuring Papers from the International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC) 2025

The most recent International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC 2025) took place May 5-8, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada. Topics ranged from the latest developments in more traditional application fields of thermal spray coatings, such as thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) or wear-resistant layers, to more innovative applications, such as hydrophobic surfaces or environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). There was a specific focus on cold spraying and its many current and potential applications, such as cold spray additive manufacturing, cold spraying in the field of aeronautics, and modeling and simulation of cold spray processes. The conference also included thematic sessions on rapidly emerging fields: the use of AI, machine learning, and integrated multi-scale process modeling in thermal spraying, and novel coating materials, such as high-entropy alloys.
