Title

Illumination schemes for a compact eye-safe non-line-of-sight localization system

Abstract
Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging enables 3D reconstruction of scenes outside the direct line of sight. While existing lab-grade systems achieve high-resolution imaging at several frames per second, most lack eye-safety and compactness. We present a compact, eye-safe NLOS system that localizes objects around a corner using Light detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology. We assess how illumination positions outside the system-s field of view (FoV), required by soft-gated first-photon single-photon-avalanche-diode (SPAD) detectors, affect performance. Multiple illumination positions not only enhance scene lighting but also improve object localization through combined reconstruction. Maintaining solid state operation, Flash-LiDAR systems can be equipped with collimated pulsed laser diodes to expand the 3D vision beyond the direct FoV.
