Title

Interoperability Challenges for a Corporate Interactive Situation Awareness System

Abstract
In this contribution interoperability is taken into account from the perspective of resilient production. One of the key objectives of resilient production is to have always an up-to-date situation picture to monitor and reflect internal capabilities with external influences. Today’s widely applied solution concepts for production management, like ERP and MES (specifically for production), have the ambition to make transparent exactly the same aspects. But in fact, they are insufficient to cover the individuality of major factors in crisis management. Typical systems for managing situation awareness come from defense, police, or management of critical infrastructure that are designed to manage unforeseen crisis including the handling of these individual factors. Further on, as detected in the recent crises, production management systems have to extend their capabilities from just monitoring and analysis to support the creation and management of measures along the entire resilience process. By increasing the capabilities of such an instrument, called “Corporate Interactive Situation Awareness Management System” (CISAMS), interoperability challenges come by side. These can jeopardize the benefit and usefulness of CISAMS that can lead to very critical situations in crisis management. In this paper, requirements and to be extended functions of CISAMS will be discussed and the related interoperability challenges will be identified. Afterward, a model-based solution is presented, and experiences from implementation will be provided.
