Enabling metadata enrichment of 3D measurement data by database-centered storage and exchange through the QIF data format

Abstract
In modern production environments, robust life cycle management relies on quality assurance-generated product data. Ensuring the long-term traceability of this data is essential for maintaining its integrity. However, prevalent 3D measurement data formats lack metadata support. Storing related metadata in databases is a common solution, offering structured storage but posing challenges for data exchange. The Quality Information Framework (QIF) standard presents a data format for enriched measurement data, but its implementation in metrology software is currently limited. This study investigates defining a database structure for metadata-enriched 3D measurement data, which allows the extraction into the QIF format.
