Title
Characterization of emissions from charcoal grills and their influence on ambient air quality Charakterisierung von Emissionen aus Holzkohlegrills und ihr Einfluss auf die Luftqualität
Abstract
In charcoal grill restaurants, food is prepared on charcoal grills. Often these are built in inner-city areas. Due to the dense development and sometimes poor discharge of emissions (outlet of chimney), combined with missing or non-existent emission control technology, a high concentration of fine dust, odours and other pollutants can occur for the neighbourhood. Odour emissions from charcoal grills are the most obvious problem from an air quality perspective. Here, even single charcoal grills cause limit values for statutory nuisance smell to be exceeded. If there is an accumulation of several charcoal grills in the inner-city area, the limit values for particulate matter (PM<inf>10</inf> and PM<inf>2.5</inf>) in ambient air and, in unfavorable inner-courtyard areas with low air exchange, also for benzene are exceeded.
