Easier, faster and better planning of glazing using a product data network with methods as a service

Abstract
In the design of glazing, architects and engineers often need to search manually for product data which is suitable for their building performance simulation. When planning applications can directly access product data and calculation methods, they can make it easy for designers to evaluate building envelopes accurately. This paper presents a product data network with a collection of methods as a service for building envelopes. It evaluates seven use cases to investigate if the product data network and its methods are ready to be used by software companies. The use cases demonstrate that the product data network and its methods can contribute to applications which make the planning of building envelopes easier, faster and better.
