Title

Objective assessment of navigation systems on ships

Abstract
BEYOND As digitalisation and automation transform the maritime industry, the science and practice of navigation faces new challenges. The BEYOND research project has developed a toolbox to measure situational awareness of bridge crews and evaluate maritime user interfaces. Through simulations, eye-tracking, and surveys, the toolbox enables a comprehensive analysis and optimisation of navigation systems to enhance safety and efficiency at sea, write Robert Grundmann and Hari Sundar Mahadevan from Germany’s Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services CML, Department Sea Traffic and Nautical Solutions.
