Title
Open6GCore Demonstration: A Next Generation R&D Core Network
Abstract
The recent uptake in beyond 5G and 6G mobile network research drives the need for advanced tools researchers can use to test and evaluate their work. Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems is developing the Open6GCore, a 3GPP aligned, 5G compatible mobile core network prototype for research and development. It features an improved control plane architecture, designed to be more flexible and efficient than the 5G service-based architecture. To evaluate the Open6GCore it is being tested using 5G radio equipment and end devices. Built on top of a 5G data plane that supports standard interfaces and protocols. Thus, Open6GCore will enable researchers and developers to test and evaluate their beyond 5G hard- and software solutions. This demonstration shows the first release of Open6GCore. It shows Open6GCore performing essential core network functionality, such as user equipment registration and session management.
