Title

Magnetic Shielding Performance with Spray Coating

Abstract
This paper investigates the potential of novel spray-coated materials for magnetic and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding in aerospace applications. A specialized testing setup utilizing a 3-axis Helmholtz coil system was developed to measure the shielding effectiveness of these materials applied to PEEK (polyether ether ketone) substrates, with comparisons to traditional mu-metal shielding. Initial results highlight a critical gap in existing literature regarding the magnetic permeability of powders used for spray coating, revealing that their values are significantly lower than those listed in commercial data sheets. This discrepancy may explain the limited shielding effectiveness observed in early tests.
