Simulation-Based Design of an Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning System for Factory Buildings with Glass Facades

Abstract
Factory buildings with large glass facades are subject to significant thermal interactions due to solar radiation in the summer and frost in the winter. To counteract these effects, intensive air conditioning programs are required to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. However, these systems incur substantial energy costs and burden the environment. This study investigates the air temperature distribution in a factory hall with glass facades and skylights in the roof, based on a CFD simulation model. Using a solar radiation model, the solar radiation is taken into account in the simulation model and evaluated in the results. Furthermore, the challenges of geometric detail in constructing the simulation model are highlighted. The results provide a detailed analysis of the temperature and flow conditions within the factory hall, which can inform the development of more energy-efficient climate control concepts.
