Title
Worldwide Hydrogen Production Potential
Abstract
Green hydrogen offers a potential for broad global availability, unlike fossil fuels concentrated in a few countries. It can be produced in regions with ample wind and solar resources, and desalinated water can support production in areas lacking freshwater. Long viewed as a clean fuel, hydrogen combustion produces no CO₂, with applications spanning the chemical and steel industries, transportation (e.g., fuel cell vehicles), energy storage, and heating. This chapter outlines various hydrogen production methods and examines pathways to low-carbon hydrogen, focusing on "blue" and "green" hydrogen. It discusses requirements and potential capacities for each type and assesses global and regional projections for green hydrogen by 2050, concluding with key insights into future production potential.
