Title

Energy, Environment, and Resources | Energy Transition and Sector Coupling

Abstract
Today’s energy sector is facing a range of challenges such as the climate crisis, the energy crisis with high, volatile energy prices and a critical supply of raw materials. This requires a comprehensive transformation of the energy sector. Among other things, energy efficiency must be increased, renewable energies must be rapidly expanded, electrification must be driven forward and a hydrogen economy must be established. The ongoing expansion of fluctuating renewable electricity generation requires increased flexibility measures in the energy system of the future. As many of the new technologies require critical raw materials, strategies for dealing with these must be developed and implemented. The challenges and transformation paths are discussed in the chapter.
