Title
Health Data Trustees: A Business Model Perspective
Abstract
Sharing and analyzing the increasing amount of health data has enormous potential for research and innovation in healthcare. However, the secondary use of health data creates major challenges for researchers from academia and industry, particularly in terms of data access and availability. The concept of data trustees is proposed as a solution to enable secure, trustworthy, and legally compliant access to and use of health data. Therefore, sustainable financing of a data trustee to cover the costs of its services is essential. Currently, there has been limited scientific research on business models for data trustees. Hence, this article aims to fill this gap by conducting a systematic literature review and using a morphological analysis to identify key elements and characteristics for the design of data trustee business models. The main findings from this study contribute to both academic understanding and practical development and implementation of data trustee models in the field of healthcare.
