Title
From Values to Ventures: Examining the Link of Entrepreneurs' Purpose, Hybrid Business Models and Performance
Abstract
As the global focus on sustainable development intensifies, understanding its integration with entrepreneurship becomes crucial for fostering responsible growth and innovation. This study delves deeper into how sustainability is incorporated into various aspects of a venture, such as entrepreneur's values, the venture's objectives and business models, and how these elements jointly impact venture performance. We analyse a sample comprising 515 cases of entrepreneurial projects in Scandinavia utilizing a Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) approach. We identify four explanatory configurations that contribute to venture performance, each representing a certain set of causal synergetic variables. By focusing on simplified, logical statements that describe configurations of conditions for the outcome, we gain insights into decision-making processes and strategies of entrepreneurs regarding sustainability orientation and contextualize them with socioeconomic influencing factors. This study enriches the literature by offering a unique perspective on the interplay between sustainability aspects, entrepreneurial values, business model orientation, objectives, entrepreneurship support, and decision-making processes in relation to venture performance.
