Title
Survey on personnel resource planning in warehouses - European results
Abstract
The correct planning of personnel resources in warehouses poses major challenges for many companies. Increasing fluctuations in the volume and structure of incoming orders and the decreasing availability of urgently needed skilled workers are just two of the many challenges in day-to-day warehouse operations. Resource planning systems (RPS) can help to plan personnel resources efficiently. Based on the processes, the order load and the available personnel, an RPS optimizes personnel deployment, taking into account qualitative and quantitative employee capacities. The survey on personnel resource planning in warehouses creates transparency about the current use of resource planning systems in European warehouses and spreads knowledge about possible tools and methods for personnel resource planning in logistics. The survey was conducted by Fraunhofer IML via online questionnaires and took place in the period from 2nd of January 2024 to 5th of May 2024. 166 locations of at least 83 companies participated. Various industries and company sizes were integrated to provide a comprehensive overview of the usage of resource planning systems. The survey was conducted in Europe with focus on the DACH region, Italy, France, Poland, UK and Spain.
