Title

AI Approaches for Managing Preventive Care in Digital Health Ecosystems

Abstract
In the last decade, a paradigm shift towards increased importance of preventive care can be seen across national healthcare systems. Instead of purely focusing on curing diseases, patients are increasingly supported by digital health assistants to manage their well-being, take preventive actions and avoid diseases before they occur. AI technology as the main driver has changed the way patients and professionals use preventive care interventions. As holistic data from personal health sensors, devices and digital records as well as AI technologies become widely available, the impact of preventive measures can be increased. This chapter provides an overview of the structural changes that set the playing field for future AI-driven preventive care. The potential for the use of AI in consumer-oriented and professional preventive health is derived based on the data value chain covering personal health, primary care, and public health. To illustrate the potential of AI-powered technology for different healthcare sectors, examples from research and practice are shown. To leverage this potential for national healthcare systems, facilitating and necessary environmental factors are discussed.
