NEMI: A Standardized Approach to Intent Based Networking

Abstract
Dis-aggregated telecommunication networks, emerging access technologies and non-public, privately operated campus networks, more than ever before require network management systems to surpass traditional policy-based network management automation. Increased network management automation and simplicity of management interfaces are the cornerstones of any future network management approaches. Network and Edge Data Management Interface (NEMI) toolkit introduces the first version of the Intent-based Networking as a framework to encapsulate dedicated AI/ML models into so-called Intent Management Function to enable AI at various levels, including RAN-, Core-, transport network and Cloud infrastructure. By doing so NEMI enables an advanced beyond 5G / 6G network management including use cases for energy efficiency, QoS- and resource optimization and optimized mobility management.
