Title
Unit operation of distributed cross-sectoral energy systems in marketoptimized operation
Abstract
The unit operation and unit interaction change when running distributed cross-sectoral energy systems (DCES) in optimized operation. This allows electricity load-shifting and increases the efficiency of natural gas use. We analyzed changes in unit operation compared to standard heat-driven operation by developing and utilizing an optimization model of an DCES. Investigating the operation of different concepts shows that higher generation capacity leads to more loadshifting and therefore a higher flexibility potential for the German energy system. Analyzing the operating costs showed that the operation is more cost efficient when the DCES concept is adjusted or optimized in a dynamic electricity tariff. Based on the results, we analyzed effects of unit sizing and tariff scenarios. The investigation was performed for a case study of the DCES of a hospital complex.
