Title

Short-term charging infrastructure expansion potential with centralised control - modelling, outcomes and issues

Abstract
The need for grid expansion can be reduced and the ubiquitous availability of charging stations can be significantly increased in the short term through centralised grid-serving control of the charging infrastructure. This paper presents a method for determining the expansion potential of charging infrastructure using centralised charging management. The mixed-integer linear optimisation problem-based methodology can be used to generate findings on the potential of centralised grid-serving control, which can support grid operators in strategic decisions on the further development of their metrological grid monitoring, inter alia. The results can also be used to assess the need for grid expansion as a result of the electromobility ramp-up. The methodology is applied here to a CIGRE benchmark network and the low-voltage grid of the city of Kiel.
