Title
CO2- and cost-optimal Multi-Energy System Modelling considering the Provision of Operating Reserve
Abstract
Previous efforts to reduce CO 2 emissions in the electricity sector have concentrated primarily on the energy supply part. To achieve CO 2 minimization in the overall system, ancillary services must also be considered. This paper investigates how a simulation tool consisting of two models can be used to plan a decarbonized and cost-optimal multi-sectoral energy system, considering the energy distribution infrastructure. The assessment of the CO 2 reduction associated costs is carried out using numerical case studies based on the example of a region in Germany with a low industrial share for developed scenarios in 2030. The results show that consideration of ancillary service provision in energy system operation leads to significantly higher CO 2 emissions and costs than in the energy supply only case.
