Modular Nanoelectronics for Quantum Communication
Abstract
Microelectronic circuits form an integral part of quantum communication systems. Their application ranges from the control of the quantum-optical setup to the point of processing the optical information and of extracting a cryptographic key. In a general trend, nanoelectronics transitions from application-specific inte-grated circuits to flexible modular components. This approach combines the benefits of specific semiconductor technology nodes while maintaining good control on design and production costs also for small to intermediate production volumes. We here present a modular electronics platform addressing the requirements of quantum key distribution. This platform is based on the chiplet concept and presently developed and adapted in a quantum communication test environment. It aims at providing the performance and miniaturization capabilities of modern semiconductor technologies to the field of quantum communication.
