GUW+: A Smart Grid for Public Transport in Urban Environments

Abstract
GUW+ is a German acronym for an innovative and intelligent traction sub-station, comprising power supply cubicles for urban rail, charging units for electric road vehicles and an energy storage system. These are offering unique synergies and operational advantages to the operator. Due to a bi-directional input converter, several smart grid services become possible.
