Abstract
In this thesis, the connection between subsidies, especially based on the KfW program energy-efficient renovation 2005 to 2017, and the renovation activity is analyzed based on the renova-tion rate in the period 2000 to 2015. Both the renovation rate and the subsidy rate increased during the period under review, with heating systems being renovated and subsidized signifi-cantly more frequently than the building envelope. When differentiating between building types, multi-family houses are more frequently fully modernized than single-family houses, so that the renovation rate is higher, and a higher share of the subsidies is spent on this. Among the owners, a clear renovation backlog can be observed for the homeowner association. Insti-tutional owners have made the most progress in renovation. Regional differences are visible, with the new federal states in particular lagging behind the old federal states in terms of reno-vation rates and the use of subsidies. Overall, a link between subsidies and renovation activity can be found at all levels investigated. How strong the impact is, however, also depends on other economic and social factors.
