Titel
Abstract

Emerging innovative start-ups and the increasing dynamics of technological progress as well as the associated disruption of existing business areas are leading to significant changes in entire industries. A systematic selection of new technologies and innovations therefore is relevant for companies in order to be able to sustainably assert themselves in competition in the future. To secure a market position in the long term and to maximize the specific benefit of technologies, strategic aspects are becoming increasingly important in addition to purely economic goals. By taking strategic goals into account when selecting technologies, companies can gain additional competitive advantages. To achieve these advantages, the strategy-specific potentials of technologies must be identified and described for each individual company during the initial technology selection process. Existing approaches to technology assessment focus predominantly on a monetary assessment so that the technology-strategic corporate perspective is not sufficiently considered. This paper, therefore, presents an approach to derive strategic potentials of technologies for manufacturing companies. For this purpose, a model for the derivation of technology-specific needs based on strategic corporate goals is presented. Based on these findings, a procedure for determining the technology-specific potential for manufacturing companies is outlined.
