SzenarienDB - Creation of an open database infrastructure for freely accessible data storage and publication of scenario data for energy system analysis
Abstract
The research project SzenarienDB creates an open and publicly accessible database for the publication, description and maintenance of energy scenario data, i.e. input and output data, metadata and assumptions of scenarios: The Open Energy Platform (OEP). The associated Open Energy Family is a collection of tools and information around it. This collaborative community effort has been openly developed and is constantly evolving. This leads to greater transparency, facilitated exchange of scenario data and a more efficient use of public funding. As part of this open infrastructure, we designed and developed the Open Energy Ontology (OEO) - the first ontology in the field of energy system research. Ontologies describe the properties of an area of interest and how they are related to each other by defining basic ideas and categories. The OEO provides clear definitions and interpretations of terms and relationships, thereby supporting research in multiple areas: Standardising of terminology, data annotation and integration, templates for data capture and visualizations. The aim of this project is to combine knowledge and data of energy system modelling and make scenarios more comparable, understandable and freely accessible to everyone.
