Title

Over-the-air demonstration of satellite integration with 5G core network and multi-access edge computing use case

Abstract
This paper presents in detail the successful over-the-air demonstration test conducted in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 Barcelona as part of the ESA ARTES projects SATis5 and OSMOSIS. This demo showcased the satellite integration with the latest 3GPP Release 15 5G Core Network, allowing to operate the satellite backhaul network as a 5G cellular access network, and demonstrated the efficient edge content delivery via a 4G/LTE cellular access network integrated with the satellite backhaul network. The key underlying architecture concept and the Multiaccess Edge Computing (MEC) use case are elaborated. Useful over-the-air validation test results are provided.
