Title

Cake filtration simulation for poly-dispersed spherical particles

Abstract
This study is devoted to the macroscopic modeling and numerical study of the flow resistivity and filtering efficiency of filter cakes in the case of particle mixtures. The cake filtration is characterized by increasing the pressure drop at constant flux regime, or by reducing the flux at constant pressure regime. Understanding the underlying processes is important for a better design, scaling and maintenance of the filtration facilities. The formed filter cake mainly depends on the particle size and shape, particle concentration and inflow velocity. The formation of the cake is widely studied at microscopic (particle) scale as well as at macroscopic (effective porous media) scale.
