Title

Rheology, mold filling and structural FE-simulation of LFT-D and tailored LFT-structures

Abstract
With increasing market shares of processing technologies for long fiber reinforced thermoplastics in the automotive industry simulation of such parts becomes increasingly important. New material systems and structures like locally fabric reinforced parts are going to be used. Thus the development of appropriate material models and their implementation in FEA is a very important step for the future application of such materials and structures. The present publication shows the evaluation of mechanical parameters and processing data of material systems manufactured by the LFT-D-ILC process and shows the implementation into the process chain simulation. Scientific evaluation of processing parameters under real process conditions and the evaluation of their effects on the mechanical performance of the materials were conducted. At the Fraunhofer ICT examinations for the description of processing data and data acquisition and evaluation of rheological data for LFT-D materials were carried out. Local reinforcements with fabrics in LFT parts (Tailored LFT) were modeled and compared with experimental results.
