Title
User interface accessibility. A retrospective of current standardisation efforts
Abstract
This paper reviews recent standardisation work in the area of human computer interaction and in particular the ISO 9241 documentation, seeking to: provide a retrospective account of recent efforts and results, highlighting the motivation, rationale and content of existing standards; summarise the results of a structured investigation into the suitability of existing material in the context of user interface accessibility; and propose a critical number of key recommendations which contribute to the establishment of a firm ground for promoting user interface accessibility in new interactive applications and services.
