A discrete position sequence is generated for the application of information units to the dataset to be marked, taking into account dataset specific properties and using a key. The information unit to be applied is written to and read at the positions in the dataset, determined by the position sequence. The dataset specific characteristics are content properties, object properties or geometric/format specific characteristics. ADVANTAGE - Association of information units implemented in datasets is not lost by changes in datasets.
