The device for supporting the heart function uses elastic filled chambers (5) operated by mechanical pressure. The device is focussed on the left ventricle area of the heart (1). The chambers have connections to them which allow them to be filled and emptied with a suitable medium. An elastic sleeve (4) is provided which can be laid partly around the heart. The chambers are located in the walls of the sleeve. The chambers may be attached by adhesive or by a vulcanising process to the sleeve. ADVANTAGE - No restriction on freedom of movement of heart and device can be fixed securely in place.
