The device is intended for handling bottle-shaped vessels. The device is therefore designed as a tool which can be connected to a robot arm by means of an intermediate piece. The tool has a clamping device to hold the vessel in the neck area. Moreover, the tool comprises at least one support element extending transversly to a longitudinal axis of the intermediate piece. The support element guides the clamping device in the area of one end of its extension. The clamping device is designed as a loop pressing the vessel against a stop. Facing away from the clamping device is a suction device arranged in the area of the support element, said suction device applying a vacuum to the closed vessel in the area of a vessel seal attached to said vessel.
