Modeling a building energy management system scenario based on OGEMA framework for power flow optimization
Abstract
Energy management systems (EMS) for buildings in distribution grids have the potentiality of the unification of smart grids and smart homes. A robust communication infrastructure facilitates data exchange and the power management of the system. For numerous distributed elements in an EMS, such as generators, energy storage systems and user devices, a middleware would be a solution to overcome problems like the complicated communication standards/protocols or the incompatibilities of those elements. This thesis presents a building energy management system (BEMS) scenario equipped with a battery storage system that is modeled by OGEMA framework from the perspective of power flow optimization, with the objective that to reduce intermittent in-feed from renewable energy resources (RES) and to assist the grid in peak shaving at peak times.
