The mariner of the future

A young watchkeeping officer, right out of the maritime academy, signs on for his first voyage. He steps on-board a handymax bulk carrier which is busy discharging coal from Venezuela at the quay of a Hamburg power plant. After cargo operations are completed and the ship is ready for departure, his first voyage as a deck officer of the watch commences.
