Similarly as known from laser sintering and microwave or millimeter wave sintering, optimized spark plasma sintering can reproduce the grain size - density relationship and the properties (e.g. transparency) generated by conventional solid state sintering, but until present without the option to exceed the previous limits in the case of alumina ceramics.
