Title
Dynamic Modelling and Grid Integration of Thyristor Connected PEM Electrolysis Plants
Abstract
This study investigates the behaviour of electrolysis plant under grid disturbances, focusing on the dynamic behaviour of the electrolyser itself, which is connected via a thyristor rectifier. Therefore, a detailed simulation model, based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, replicates the real behaviour of electrolysers. Key parameters such as the minimum shutdown time, the equilibrium and the reversible cell voltage and the gradient of power recovery are defined, as these significantly influence the behaviour of an electrolyser during a grid fault. The results shown indicate a inherent FRT-capability of electrolysers and emphasise the need for precise coordination between grid operators and electrolyser operators to ensure future grid stability.
