The important role of fuel cells in the current discussion of environmentally acceptable power generation systems results from their high electric effectiveness, conservation of energy resources and reduction of anthropogenic hazardous emissions. The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technologies and Applied Materials Science (Bremen, Germany) and the Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation (Boston, USA) have developed a gluing technology using modern adhesives not only for special tasks but as multifunctional problem solvers in manufacturing of innovative products. The new technology integrates currently used mounting cells into the fabrication of fuel cells. It makes possible further miniaturization of the entire fuel-cell system.
